Pamela J. Lein has 25 years’ experience working in the fields of molecular and cellular neurobiology, neuropharmacology and neurotoxicology. Her research has focused on defining the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which growth factors, inflammatory mediators, pharmacological agents and environmental toxicants modulate neuronal connectivity and the impact of such changes on normal neurodevelopment and on the function of the mature brain.
Isaac N. Pessah has 30 years experience working in the field of molecular and cellular neuropharmacology and neurotoxicology. His research has focused on defining the molecular mechanisms by which neuromodulators, neurotoxicants, and natural products influence Ca2+ signaling pathways in excitable cells (muscle and neurons) and how such changes influence normal development, excitability and pathological excitotoxicity.
Michael A. Rogawski is professor of neurology and a member of the Center for Neuroscience and the Pharmacology and Toxicology Graduate Group. His laboratory conducts cellular neurophysiological studies of ion channels, with a focus on the action of ion channel modulators used in the treatment of seizures and epilepsy.
Daniel J. Tancredi, PhD, contributes his expertise and over twenty-five years of statistical and data management experience to the UC Davis CounterACT program as the director of the Statistics and Data Management Core, providing targeted statistical design and analysis support to the research projects and scientific cores and an integrated web-based research database system that is used to facilitate reliable and cost-efficient data capture, processing and sharing.
Dr. Wulff’s research is focused on potassium channel pharmacology and the design of new ion channel modulating drugs and tool compounds. She has authored 160 peer-reviewed publications on voltage- and Ca2+-activated K+ channels and was ranked in the top 1% of highly cited researchers in her field in the 2018 Clarivate Analysis.
I am in the Pharmacology and Toxicology graduate group. I completed my undergraduate education at Tufts University in Massachusetts. As an undergraduate I was introduced to the field of pharmacology through my thesis project exploring the interaction between stress and ethanol abuse. I worked for two years as a technician in the Tufts-AstraZeneca Laboratory for Basic and Translational Neuroscience. My research in the Lein Lab involves the assessment of neuroprotective strategies against intoxication with organophosphates.
Bogdan Barnych is an Assistant Project Scientist in Bruce Hammock laboratory at the University of California Davis. He has over 15 years of interdisciplinary research experience. His research as part of the CounterACT project involves development of novel sensitive analytical techniques for the detection of convulsants as well as synthesis of lipid mediators and enzyme inhibitors for mechanistic studies and drug development.
I grew up in Sacramento and developed a lot of interest in pharmacology during the last year of my undergraduate program at UC Davis. I’m interested in neuropharmacology and the way hallucinogenic and industrial compounds affect signaling networks. I joined the Lein Lab in the Spring of 2019 working with spatiotemporal profiles of biomarkers related to seizurogenic compound exposure.
