Dorota Zolkowska

Dr. Zolkowska holds an M.D. and Ph.D. (pharmacology) and recently was granted Habilitation (Dr. Hab.) from the Medical University of Lublin, Poland. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA/NIH) in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Dorota Zolkowska is an Associate Project Scientist at the University of California, Davis with over 20 years of experience in neuropharmacology. At the CounterACT Center, Dr. Zolkowska developed the first, reproducible and validated translational rodent model of status epilepticus induced by chemical threat agent TETS (tetramethylenedisulfotetramine). This model is also the first model of status epilepticus induced by GABAA receptor antagonist. Dr. Zolkowska evaluates potential treatments for their ability to stop acute seizures and persistent seizures during status epilepticus (prevention of epilepsy development) based on behavioral validation and long term EEG signal recording and analysis. All new medical countermeasures are also tested for their ability to improve survival of exposed subjects.
