Core A: Analytical Chemistry

Core A, or Analytical Chemistry, provides assistance to the three projects as well as Core B (Probe and Pharmaceutical Chemistry) by offering analytical support, training, and cutting-edge analytical techniques for drug and biomarker detection. Core A develops methods for the detection of the target compounds and their metabolites by using LC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) and GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry). Core A also conducts quality control assessments, provides support in metabolomics, assists in ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) studies and provides training for new scientists in modern analytical techniques.

Analytical Chemistry is responsible not only for service but also for the development of new analytical techniques and technologies that can serve both UC Davis CounterAct investigators and external CounterAct investigators.  Analytical Chemistry develops many components of toxin and therapy analysis to discover biomarkers of exposure and effect. The metabolomics evaluation conducted in Core A will assist in determining the effectiveness of the therapeutic strategies as well as providing a better understanding of drug-drug interactions.
